JANUARY 2010
Happy New Year Racers,
I hope Santa brought you lots of goodies. I also hope everyone had time to spend as much time with family as you could stand.
I have been working on our schedule for 2010 and have a late gift to everyone. So far we have two great spectator events on our schedule – Portland Historics and Coronado Speed Festival. We have an opportunity for a quality third event of which I’m working out the details now.
Our group has been invited to be a part of the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival which will be held at Infineon Raceway June 4-6, 2010. I know a lot of you in the past have been a part of the Wine Country Classic. It is a great event. The proposed schedule for this event does not include our own race group at this time; however, General Racing would like to include our cars. They are asking us to submit our entries as soon as possible. If there are enough entries we’ll get our own race group. If there are not enough entries, we might be combined with another group if there is space. There is a possibility we might be turned down all together if there aren’t sufficient entries; in that case our entry fee would be refunded. Let’s not let that happen, I encourage everyone to get their entries in ASAP.
If your car is close to being finished it’s time to get it race ready for 2010. You all own cars for many different reasons but hopefully the most important reason is to be able to drive and enjoy it. We have a great group of people who have a common interest and it is a lot of fun to sit around telling stories and learning more about this significant era in racing. To our East Coast racers this is worth coming out West, it will increase our standing in the Vintage World and put us closer to the goal of having events all over the country. We have been offered the opportunity to run at several East Coast Events but don’t have the numbers yet to make it happen. We need to grow a bit bigger before we can spread out past the West Coast. I know, East Coasters, it doesn’t seem fair. It is just that more of the cars are on the West Coast now. Give it time and we will come to visit. I really want to come back and run the Glen, Lime Rock, Daytona and Sebring someday. You guys have some really great tracks. As a new start up group we have to constantly prove ourselves, we don’t have the history and numbers that the Can-am, Historic Trans-am or F5000 Groups do. I hope you all understand that the future of our group rests solely with it members. We all need to make an effort. We don’t have the numbers at this time for anyone to sit back and let someone else make this happen.
I want to say thank you to everyone who helped out in 2009. It was an interesting year for our group. We got invited to some real nice events. The tough part was that only one person in the group actually made all the spectator events we had on the schedule. The economy is still going to be a drag for 2010, but things appear to be getting better. I hope your race budgets are in better shape this year.
I am attaching the General Racing entry form for you to fill out. Let’s show GR that we can deliver and get the entries completed and sent in within two weeks. They need to know early how to accommodate our group. I know we can get the numbers for our own run group. We have the car count - let’s make this year a winner for everyone. Please don’t forget to get those HMSA entries in also.
Thanks, Ron2010 Wine Country Classic Entry Form
