Happy New year everyone. Welcome to 2008. It is time to wake up and smell the 110 Octane. I am well on the way with preparations for this year. I have gotten the motor back from my engine builder and have just finished the installation. It came along with a lot of repairs such as clutch, starter and radiator. I had the opportunity to watch the dyno runs on my motor. Wow!!!! What a spectacle experiencing an 8000 rpm scream before your eyes. Really Loud Too.
I hope you all are working toward getting your cars ready. Besides working on the mechanicals it can be an interesting experience doing the research about your car. Finding out who built it, its race history, talking to the original engineer, drivers and crew. It is a kick. Several people have contacted me with updates. If you have not, please take a minute to let me know if you will be coming to the May event at Reno. If we have enough cars we will have our own grid. If we don’t we will be mixed in with another group. I really hope we can make a strong showing and get some good coverage in the various vintage motorsport magazines. Exposure will help us to grow.
I have had several e-mails asking if I know of any cars for sale. There are people who want to participate but need a ride. So if you know of cars that qualify for the group let me know and I will pass it on. As of now I have 26 cars listed in our registry. A lot of these cars are race ready now. A few are very close and some will be awhile before they see the track. I believe we can motivate these owners by running ours. I have a 1988 Chevy Beretta T/A car for sale. If interested let me know. The people that have contacted me looking for cars so far want either a Ford or a V-8. My Beretta is a V-6 so no takers so far. The fun part of this group is that there is a wide variety of cars that ran in this era. We will be seeing some wild 4 cylinder turbo cars giving the V-8 cars all they can handle. This is what will be the draw for the group. There will be something for everyone. I can hardly wait to see what will show up on the grid.
The website is coming together; it should be up by the end of January. Websites are all new to me so it is taking a little time. We have a format in mind. I have a website designer working with me now whom I think will put together a great website. It will be a big benefit for the group.
HMSA wants our group to work. Cris Vandergriff is willing to fit us into any of their events through out the year. The coming year will be our time to sort out our group. I know several of you have Historic T/A cars. Our events should fit in and not conflict with the Trans-am group schedule. Portland is going to be a key event for us. Portland is going to feature Stock Cars this year. I believe that if we have a good showing we will have our own grid there. Portland is a great track. You can really fly down the back straight. It’s a track that has a lot of history with both the IMSA and SCCA Trans-am series. Both Series ran Portland all through the 80’s. Portland has just been repaved. It should be better then ever with improvements on a few of the turns.
Have you sent in your car information to Cris at HMSA? He wants it right away. If you need help on research about your car I have most of the qualifying and race results for the SCCA Trans-am and IMSA GTO races from 1980-1991. Please check the HMSA website for dates of all the events. Our important events are the May Reno race and the Portland Historics in July. Plan on them, the group needs your support. We will have an amazing time running our cars together. I think that is about it for now. It is time to get back out to the shop.
